Design Verification

Nearly 30% of designs miss the functional specification by more than 50%, and about one-third of designs are completed behind schedule by an average of about four months.  These project failures clearly illustrate the limitations imposed by piecing together point tools without a clear plan, methodology and targeted quality of result;  no longer, in this ever more increasingly complex ecosystem of System-on-Chips (SoCs), are these acceptable practices.

Silicon Test & Debug

Silicon debug and test are clearly becoming the next wildcard, with the former currently accounting for up to 30% of total project time and the latter running up 50% of total cost. Poor reuse of silicon test, complete lack of systematic leverage on the verification process and exploding test development times, are inhibiting the identification of logical and physical problems during prototype validation; all of which are contributing to significant delays and costly respins.

Our Vision

Because of these, as well as many other challenges, it is necessary to develop and apply complete design automation solutions.  These solutions must begin with properly specifying intent in an executable form, followed by a fully automated path to design closure. Methodologies resulting in technical and cultural separation between the pre and post silicon worlds need to be revisited.  The result of bridging the gap between verified design and fully validated silicon will be more reliable products which meet time-to-market windows within a competitive cost structure.
